Thingyan is one of the world’s biggest and craziest water fights, along with Songkran in Thailand and the Cambodian New Year. Over the course of a few days, hundreds of thousands of gallons of water is thrown or sprayed at each other, all in the name of washing away the previous year of sin. And it makes for one of the most awesome travel experiences I’ve ever had.
A group of friends and I unknowingly ended up in the epicenter of the Thingyan festival celebrations, so after suiting up and arming ourselves, we hit the trenches and went head first into the unrelenting waves of water. This is just a small taste of what Thingyan is really like, and after all, it lasts more than 3 days!
